HOTEL SHUTTLE SERVICE
The Convention hotel shuttle service will run from the hotels listed on the accommodation page. You needed to have requested this service when you registered. For more information, please see the accommodation shuttle timetable, the airport shuttle timetable and the Brisbane airport pickup directions. There will now be an additional bus heading to the listed hotels from the airport at 3pm on Sunday 27 September. The 6.30pm bus that day will now depart the airport at 7.30pm, to allow for later arrivals to make use of this service.
AIR TRAVEL
Flight Times
Registrations for delegates and visitors for General Convention of Synod will be open from 4.00 – 6.45 pm on Tuesday, 29 September. The opening service commences at 7.00 pm. Allow sufficient time for baggage pickup, waiting for your shuttle, and then 30 minutes for the commute from Brisbane Airport to the Convention venue, Redeemer Lutheran College, Rochedale.
For your return journey, we recommend that you do not book flights before 12.00 noon. The closing service concludes at 10.30 am on Sunday, 4 October, and shuttle buses to Brisbane Airport will not commence prior to 10.30 am.
LCA Travel Consultant
The LCA’s authorised consultant for flights to and from Brisbane and Coolangatta airports is FCm. Click here to find out how to access their services.
To book flights with FCm:
- If you are not currently a registered traveller or booker, please call FCm on 1800 458 949 and quote ‘Lutheran Church’ as the customer and ‘SYNOD’ as the cost centre.
- If you are already registered with FCm, please book flights as normal and change the cost centre on the last screen to SYNOD.
Pastor delegates: you are eligible to have your flights for General Pastors Conference and General Convention paid for by the LCA and you are required to use the FCm service. Please select the invoice option. No flight-cost reimbursements will be made to you except in extraordinary circumstances. It is assumed that you will choose the most cost-effective fare for your travel from the flights available on the day that you book. Please make your bookings as soon as possible.
GCC members, present and past bishops/presidents, chairpersons and executive officers: you are eligible to have your flights paid for by the LCA and you are required to use the FCm service. Please select the invoice option. No flight-cost reimbursements will be made to you except in extraordinary circumstances. It is assumed that you will choose the most cost-effective fare for your travel from the flights available on the day that you book. Please make your bookings as soon as possible. You are also entitled to have your bookings completed through the LCA office; please contact Jayne Welke regarding your preferred dates and times of travel.
Lay delegates school principals and non delegate pastors: we prefer that you use the FCm service, as the LCA receives a rebate on your travel costs. If you use the FCm system, you should pay by credit card and be reimbursed by your appointing body.
GROUND TRANSPORT
Driving to Convention
Pastor delegates driving to Convention will be reimbursed on the basis of:
- 18 cents/km if there is one pastor delegate in the car
- 23 cents/km if there are two pastor delegates in the car
- 28 cents/km if there are three or more pastor delegates in the car.
Travel reimbursement will be paid on submission of the standard LCA expense claim form. Where two or three pastors are in the car and thus a higher rate is being claimed, the names of all the pastors must be supplied. After your return from Convention, please email the completed form to synod@lca.org.au A signature is not required as long as the email address matches the claimant’s name. Bank account details must be supplied, as no cash or cheques will be issued.
Lay delegates driving to Convention should negotiate reimbursement of travel costs with their parish.
Brisbane Airport shuttles
We will be providing a regular airport shuttle service from and to Brisbane Airport on selected days. Click on the highlighted link here for pick-up directions. Due to security regulations at Brisbane Airport, people travelling on shuttle services must be pre-registered. Therefore delegates must have requested a shuttle service at the time you registered for Convention.
Coolangatta Airport
Delegates and visitors arriving at Coolangatta Airport will need to make their own arrangements to and from Redeemer Lutheran College.
Hotel shuttles
Accommodation shuttle buses will run between Redeemer Lutheran College and the listed hotels (you can also find the timetable in the Accommodation section). Delegates and visitors staying in other hotels will need to make their own transport arrangements.
Rental cars
If required, rental cars can be booked and paid for through FCm.
Public transport
Brisbane public transport options (buses and trains) can be found at the Translink website.
Car parking
There is ample capacity for car parking at Redeemer Lutheran College.
LUGGAGE
Luggage storage is available at Redeemer Lutheran College on Tuesday evening, all day Wednesday and Sunday morning.
